The SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group (SAH WiA AG) is a Board-approved affiliate group of members of the Society of Architectural Historians who share a common, scholarly, or other, interest aligned with the SAH mission.
.
The Mission of SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group is to support the breadth of interests of SAH members, to advocate the international, national, and regional contributions of women in architecture, to champion the cause of gender equity and the diversity of professional engagements in the integral field of the built environment.
.
The Objectives of the Group are to provide a platform for collaborative scholarship and a forum for discussion; to document, support, and advance research, publication, education, and exhibition initiatives; and to integrate professional standing of women in architecture with broader studies across cultures and geographies.
.
The Guidelines are envisioned to acknowledge the vast landscapes of yet latent legacies, contexts, and perspectives, to record the largely unwritten women’s professional histories, to invite questions and debates, stimulate studies and discussions in emerging and bordering areas, and to address current work and the cultivation and empowerment of the next generation. The gravity of objectives for the group is determined by an urgency to fill the void in resources about women’s contribution to the built environment, leadership, and new trajectories of global transitions.

The SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative—The Women in Architecture Grants and Fellowships Directory, as part of the SAH WiA AG program, March 2022: Celebrating Women’s History Month.

The objectives of this effort are determined by the growing demand for a resource, aimed at supporting the SAH community, which presents the scholarship and networking efforts of SAH WiA AG, and provides SAH members with a structured working document regularly updated with the latest information about relevant grants and fellowships. This project will serve a broad audience: students and educators, scholars and a diverse range of professionals within and beyond the field of the built environment. The resources are considered through the prism of gender studies, diversity, equity, and inclusion, integrating the functional areas of qualitative and quantitative research and publications, studies and travel, professional leadership and teaching, exhibitions and conferences, and a wide variety of institutional projects.

The database in-development is an ongoing project of the SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group Development/Administrative team and is intended to assist scholars at all levels of their career, to encourage and bolster collaborations, to contribute to professional empowerment, and to foster the advancement of the cause of women in architecture. The listings are organized thematically and reveal both individual and institutional opportunities. The project was initiated by Anna Sokolina, SAH WiA AG Chair and Margaret Birney Vickery, SAH WiA AG Development Liaison. The creative application and the groundwork for this project have been implemented by Ipek Mehmetoglu, SAH WiA AG Development Associate.
