The SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group (SAH WiA AG) is a Board-approved affiliate group of members of the Society of Architectural Historians who share a common, scholarly, or other, interest aligned with the SAH mission.
The Mission of SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group is to support the breadth of interests of SAH members, to advocate the international, national, and regional contributions of women in architecture, to champion the cause of gender equity and the diversity of professional engagements in the integral field of the built environment.
The Objectives of the Group are to provide a platform for collaborative scholarship and a forum for discussion; to document, support, and advance research, publication, education, and exhibition initiatives; and to integrate professional standing of women in architecture with broader studies across cultures and geographies.
The Guidelines are envisioned to acknowledge the vast landscapes of yet latent legacies, contexts, and perspectives, to record the largely unwritten women’s professional histories, to invite questions and debates, stimulate studies and discussions in emerging and bordering areas, and to address current work and the cultivation and empowerment of the next generation. The gravity of objectives for the group is determined by an urgency to fill the void in resources about women’s contribution to the built environment, leadership, and new trajectories of global transitions.

    Dear Barbara,

Congratulations on your wonderful anniversary, 50 years of devoted work and service at Syracuse University Libraries! All members of our Women in Architecture in Architecture Affiliate Group of the Society of Architectural Historians are inspired by your profound contributions, your efforts, transparency, tolerance, your endeavors in promoting women’s equity, diversity, and inclusion.  We value your expertise, and we want to celebrate and thank you for all you do.

Your presence is heartwarming, and you have a delightful way of contributing your time and talent to our programs.  With great dedication and knowledge, you created a unique and ever-growing SAH Women in Architecture Bibliography.  Evidence of women’s leadership and creative genius, it is a primary resource for all — students and faculty, scholars at all stages of career, regionally and across continents.

Thank you for spearheading our Registers Committee and for mentoring and supporting interns with confidence and optimism.  You also tirelessly support our Oral History Interviews project.  And for the SAH Pittsburgh Conference you composed a remarkable list of women in Pittsburgh architecture.  You have such an incredible embracing and welcoming personal gift of warmth and dedication, always positive and compassionate.

And we are utterly grateful to SAH Board and Staff for lasting support of our projects and programs, for your leadership and guidance.  It is a privilege for all of us to contribute to the SAH mission!

With recognition, respect, and looking forward to our further programs and projects together,

Yours, SAH Women’s affiliate group community
