Next week The Courtauld Institute of Art is hosting its Annual Postgraduate Symposium, showcasing the research of Courtauld students in the final stages of their doctoral degrees. I will be giving a paper entitled ‘Magnificent Women: French Furniture and the Representation of American Luxury’ focused on the interiors of the Cornelius Vanderbilt II residence in New York and their relation to the developing identity of Gertrude Vanderbilt (later Whitney). Other topics of interest include Louis XV’s education in the interiors of the Palais des Tuileries and the theatrical display of George Dance the Younger’s proposals for the Port of London (1796-1802).

The event will be held via Zoom on June 21 & 22, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM BST and is free and open to all.
