Docomomo US/New England call for board nominations:

“Are you interested in helping to preserve and share the significant heritage of modernism in New England? The New England chapter of Docomomo US is reaching out to those who might want to become involved in extending the group’s reach throughout the region and in participating in activities and leadership.

The mission of Docomomo US-New England is to increase awareness of the modern movement in New England, through advocacy, education, documentation and conservation. The group is engaged with modern buildings, structures, landscapes and the allied arts, and collaborates on tours, lectures, exhibitions and programs with such organizations as Historic New England; Friends of Modern Architecture, Lincoln; the Society of Architectural Historians; the Boston Society of Architects; and colleges, universities and museums throughout the region.   The chapter is currently seeking candidates for its nine-person board for terms beginning June 2022.  The board is a volunteer group that organizes activities and advocacy, and members are expected to attend and participate in regular board meetings and organizational tasks. Members are required to be Docomomo US members. No financial contribution is expected. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their interest in advocating for and protecting our modern heritage, but are not required to be professionally involved in such activities.

Having become a center for modern design and education by the 1930’s, New England features both well-known, major landmarks of modernism and countless examples of what has been called “invisible modernism”—structures and sites that still remain under the radar.  The chapter has had a hand in educating the public about the significance of familiar structures as well as in introducing little-known work to a wider audience.

The chapter’s board and officers are currently assembling a slate of candidates for an election in late April, and welcome nominations, including self-nominations. Interested individuals are invited to submit a 1-page letter of interest by April 8, 2022 to docomomo.newengland@gmail.com.”
